For the best print quality, images should be at least 300 DPI at their final printed size. Low-resolution images taken from websites or social media often appear blurry or pixelated when printed.

Bleed is the extra artwork that extends beyond the finished trim size. It ensures your design prints right to the edge without leaving unwanted white borders. We recommend including a 0.125″ (1/8″) bleed on all sides of your document.

When extending your artwork always be mindful that you are leaving a 0.125″ safe margin between any important text/images and the cut line.

How to show bleed area:

• Canva: File > Show Print Bleed
• Adobe Indesign & Illustrator: File > Document Setup > Bleed 0.125″ on all sides

If using AI software to design your artwork always ask for 0.25″ margin on all sides to allow for bleed and so that no text or images are cut off.

The safe margin is the area inside your document where important text and graphics should remain. Keeping essential content at least 0.125″–0.25″ from the trim edge helps prevent anything from being cut off during finishing.

RGB (Red, Green, Blue) is the colour mode used for digital screens, while CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) is used for commercial printing. Because these colour systems produce colour differently, some colours may appear different in print than they do on your screen.

CMYK cannot print neon/very bright colours, always bear this in mind when designing your files for print!

Screens display colour using RGB light, while printers use CMYK inks. Because these colour systems are different, some colours may appear slightly different in print. We recommend supplying artwork in CMYK whenever possible.

The right paper depends on your project. Gloss stocks produce vibrant colours, matte papers reduce glare for a refined look, uncoated papers are easy to write on, and heavier cardstock provides durability for business cards, postcards, and covers.

Some of our most commonly used paper types:

• #20 Bond Paper – Our lightest paper type, used in documents, forms, copies, carbonless books etc.
• #60 – #100 Text Paper – Most commonly used for brochures, flyers, posters, magazines, booklets etc.
• 12pt – 16pt Card Stock – Used in business cards, postcards, wedding invitations etc.

Most business cards are printed on 14 pt or 16 pt cardstock, with matte, gloss, silk, or soft-touch finishes. The best choice depends on the look and feel you want to achieve.

Saddle stitching is a booklet binding method where folded pages are secured together with staples along the spine. It’s an economical option for catalogs, programs, newsletters, and magazines.

Perfect binding uses a strong adhesive to attach pages to a square spine, creating a professional, book-like appearance commonly used for manuals, catalogs, and books. Better for higher quantities.

Page creep occurs in saddle-stitched booklets because the inside pages extend farther than the outer pages when folded. The amount of creep depends on the number of pages and the thickness of the paper. Artwork should always be kept within safe margins to prevent important content from being trimmed.

Gloss-coated paper can be difficult to write on with standard pens. If your printed piece needs to be written on, a matte or uncoated stock is usually the better choice.

Lamination helps protect against moisture, fingerprints, and everyday wear, but it does not make every product completely waterproof. The level of protection depends on the material and application.

• Encapsulated: Laminate extends beyond the edges, sealing the document for maximum durability and moisture resistance.
• Non-encapsulated: Laminate is trimmed flush to the edges, offering a clean, professional finish while preserving the document’s original dimensions

Scoring creates a crease in thicker paper before folding. This helps produce clean folds and reduces cracking on heavy cardstock.

Perforation creates a line of small holes that allows part of the printed piece to be easily torn away. It’s commonly used for tickets, coupons, forms, and reply cards.
